California Catalysts:
Re-engineering electrolyzers from the inside out.
Calicat develops advanced materials and stack components for the electrolyzer industry. Our non-Iridium catalysts can produce a lower levelized cost of Hydrogen (LCOH) sustainably.
Predicted by AI, made in LA.
It all starts with AI. Our proprietary model accurately predicts the material properties of catalyst candidates. We feed these candidates into our high-throughput catalyst discovery engine to correlate AI predictions with real-world data.
Our team in LA synthesizes the most promising catalysts from the high-throughput experiments to test in electrolyzers at our shop. We characterize the qualities of these catalysts – from the conventional (activity, durability) to the subtle (permanence, conductivity, recombination) and feed that data back into our AI model.
With our IP and the world’s largest electrocatalyst activity database, we are uniquely capable of
solving the key material science constraints that are holding back Green Hydrogen.
LCOH is our North Star.
Electrolyzer efficiency and capital cost are only two factors in a broad landscape of levers that affect what really matters – the levelized cost of Hydrogen. Our products address LCOH holistically instead of focusing on moving one lever at a time.
Catalysts
Since licensing the high-throughput catalyst discovery engine from Caltech’s JCAP program, our team has improved its capabilities to develop several families of non-Iridium OER Catalysts for PEM and AEM water electrolyzers.
